- Abstract
Osteonecrosis is a cause of joint pain and deformity, commonly caused by trauma. Non-traumatic osteonecrosis is another presentation of this condition and mostly associated with the use of corticosteroids. We review the literature regarding the management of these patients in whom conservative management given by tracking, immobilization and surgical maneuvers such as evidence: core decompression, joint replacement or arthrodesis. In few items evidence meets bisphosphonates in especial, ibandronic acid, is use in the management for the symptomatic secondary corticosteroid-induced osteonecrosis use in patients with acute lymphoid leukemia. There are no reports in the literature about the use of monoclonal antibodies, which are used in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis, in corticosteroid-induced osteonecrosis.
