- Abstract
The medical market in Poland constitutes 0.6% of the world health market considering value and only 7-8% of GDP is spent on health care. Meanwhile, in Germany it is 10.5% and in the US the sum reaches 16% (OECD, 2010). Such proportions demonstrate the necessity on higher expenditures for Polish health care system or, even more, they should encourage dealing with such poor means more effectively. In relation to the above given, the expense assessment in hospital purchasing strategies should play an important role in daily business activity of health care institutions and their suppliers. Creating group purchasing organizations could be helpful. The elaboration is written on the basis of the authors' research (Bartkowiak, Domański, Luty, 2013; Bartkowiak, Domański, 2013). It analyses economic and legal conditions of creating Group Purchasing Organizations (GPO) in the health care system in Poland and GPOs in shaping the value chain on hospital services market. The main objective is to describe the importance of GPOs in Polish health care system in the pattern of value optimization.
