- Abstract
The article focuses on the role of the U.S. Army Air Force 31st Fighter Group in World War II. The author discusses the history and formation of the Group as it moved throughout Europe, explains that in 1944 the Group was transferred to the U.S. Air Force mobility command of the Fifteenth Air Force as to escort heavy bombers and assist on strategic missions, and explores the Group's role in ground operations in northern Italy. Additionally, tables are presented with listed information of pilots, aircraft markings, and victory missions fought by the Group.
