- Title
Binding Simplification.
- Authors
Weber, David C.
- Abstract
The article focuses on how librarians in a large research library respond to their binding problem. Problems such as complicated publishers' series, non-Roman alphabets and complex titles always give them a headache in their everyday work. One library conducted an experiment to simplify their binding work and thereby will reduce their binding costs. At Harvard College Library, over 6 million volumes were reviewed by a special committee appointed by the Librarian. Concerns such as where collation should be done, should serials be bound by bibliographical volume or if cloth color be standardized and many others were addressed. Discussions were made and schemes were changed which greatly improved the system.
