- Abstract
The article examines the policy stance and practices of local government in four South African cities, including Cape Town, Johannesburg, and Durban, regarding poor street traders, particularly women. It explores the condition of women in the street trading sector and considers appropriate policy responses to the sector. It also analyses the trends in urban practice and policy towards street trading to understand how the needs of street traders are understood by policymakers.
