- Abstract
This article analyzes the work of Buenaventura de Córdoba, a political historian of the nineteenth century, who was born in Tortosa and who is known for the biography that he wrote about Cabrera. This work is the main source of information we have about the First Carlist War in Valencia and Aragon, and about the life of this leader during that period. Therefore, Cordoba's work has often been used since its publication, between 1844 and 1846, having a great influence on many authors who have studied the carlism of those years. The article begins with a brief biography of Buenaventura de Córdoba, passing after that to analyze their work, emphasizing his lack of imparciality, since, though he tried to seem objective, can not hide his admiration for Cabrera. The following is a study of the books that have subsequently used the work of Córdoba, usually as a primary source and often without citing the source of its information. With this study I want to shed light on a crucial author in the literature on carlism, while contextualizing his work and making readers of it to read its pages with a more critical view.
