- Title

- Authors
Papa-Sokal, Marina
- Abstract
The author responds to ideas on the protection of archaeological heritage put forth by Professor John Henry Merryman in 1986. The author discusses Merryman's idea of nationalist-internationalist distinction in cultural property protection and suggests that his policies on private collection and trade of antiquities would not aid the preservation and access of cultural property. The author describes the looting of archaeological sites such as those in Iraq and describes illicit trade of antiquities. Other topics include Merryman's idea of cultural property internationalism, international conventions on cultural property, differences in private collections and public institutions, differences in antiquities and other types of art, and export control and national patrimony laws.
