WE NEED TO LAY OUR ANCESTORS TO REST - THE REPATRIATION OF INDIGENOUS HUMAN REMAINS AND THE HUMAN RIGHTS ACT.
- Authors
Chamberlain, Kevin
- Abstract
The article focuses on the increasing demands of the indigenous peoples, such as Native American, Aboriginal and Maori, for the repatriation of remains of their ancestors that are held in museums in Great Britain. The remains are constantly acquired by museums in a manner that are solely unacceptable, while their continued retention is of great distress to the concerned indigenous peoples. Various recommendations made by the Working Group on Human Remains are also presented.
