- Abstract
Objective: This study was conducted in order to adapt the Stereotypes Scale for Male Gender (SSMG) to Turkish culture and to examine the psychometric properties of the 15-item long and five-item short form. Materials and Methods: The research is methodological type. Data were collected through an online questionnaire using the purposive sampling method in the research. A total of 702 male individuals between the ages of 18-30 from various regions of Turkey participated in the study. The content validity, structure validity, internal consistency reliability and item analysis methods were used to determine the psychometric properties of SSMG. Results: According to the exploratory factor analysis results of the SSMG, it was confirmed that the long and short forms were single factor in the Turkish sample. Factor loads are between 0.521-0.850 for the long form and 0.684-0.912 for the short form. As a result of the confirmatory factor analysis, all items were found to be compatible with the model. The cronbach's alpha coefficient of the scale was found to be 0.933 in the long form and 0.839 in the short form. Conclusion: It has been determined that SSMG has strong psychometric properties and can be used in Turkish society. The long or short form of SSMG can be used in gender studies, assessing the impact of an individual's identity on social pressures, and monitoring the impact of negative stereotypes of masculinity at the community level.
