- Abstract
This article aims to both evaluate the current and projected future situation of Industrial Engineering (IE) in Turkey, utilizing the available data, and also form a basis for future studies in related fields. Suggestions have been developed based on the literature review, and evaluation of available statistics as well as the experience and knowledge of the authors. This article reveals that "IE is among the professions that are most preferred and have a wide range of application in Turkey". In order to ensure the sustainability of this position of IE, we identify the areas for improvement as; university-industry cooperation, further digitalization, regeneration of the cirriculum(s) of IE programs according to the needs of the Z-generation, and reinstating the importance of IE’s role by returning the trend from service sector to the manufacturing sector. Furthermore, suggestions are listed for Industrial Engineers to be educated as individuals with high awareness of global problems (hunger, healthcare, education, entrepreneurship-innovation, sustainability, peace and democracy, economic development, etc.). This is the first study in Turkey, that explores IE in detail with its historical and current development and progress
