A lower incidence of female song among migratory species ([7]) explains the relatively lower incidence of female song in northern temperate regions, where many species are migrants. Interestingly, they reveal that females sang in an alarm context like a previous report of blue tit song ([5]), adding to recent evidence that female song is used in predator contexts ([1]).
