- Title
High-Stakes Standardized Testing: Help or Hindrance to Public Education.
- Authors
Duncan, Betty A.; Stevens, Alexandra
- Abstract
The article focuses on the impact of high-stakes standardized entrance examinations to public education in the U.S. According to U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan, he wanted even higher standards that evaluate American students against other students worldwide, wherein schools and individual states should be more flexible in obtaining their goals. It states that grade-by-grade standards will be accomplished with the coordinating efforts of the Council of Chief State School Officer and the National Governors Association. Moreover, the use of standardized testing will help in preparing the evaluations that will come with the new national standards. It adds that a firm national workforce depends on the developed skills of a quality education.
