- Abstract
The article offers information on the legal structure and political strategy that are relevant in addressing the problems on odious debt. International economic law states that a successor government is liable for the financial obligations incurred by a prior regime. Such policies were contested by a revolutionary regimes, claiming that all financial obligations, unsustainable external debt burdens by a previous despotic governments as odious debts. It is mentioned that the concept of odious debt is a potential effective principle for generating the political will to address the problems related to odious debt. The need to institutionalize the doctrine of odious debt in an acceptable terms is important.
