- Abstract
The article focuses on legal status of illegitimate children in Japan with marriage system, family registration system and local residence registration system. It mentions different treatment between legitimate children and illegitimate children and the reluctance of the Japanese government to abandon discrimination. It also mentions decision of the Supreme Court of Japan on potential future agenda for reform. It also mentions steps in granting equal status to illegitimate children.
