- Title
Resource storage and the expression of clonal plant life histories: Forum entry for clone SI.
- Authors
Watson, Maxine A.
- Abstract
The article examines the effect of storage on the timing, within the life history of clonal plants, of the commitment of meristems to vegetative versus sexual function. According to the author, storage is a predominant feature of plant biology, serving as a bridge between periods of resource abundance and scarcity. She notes that more recent observations of resource flow in the species Carex bigelowii and Podophyllum peltatum, illustrate that clonal plants extensively transport and store resources in their rhizomes and stolons.
