- Title
FUNDAMENTAL INSIGHTS ON COMPLEX SYSTEMS ARISING FROM GENERATIVE ARTS PRACTICE.
- Authors
Burraston, D.
- Abstract
The author offers insights on complex systems that emerge from generative arts practice. He notes that algorithmic-based music experienced a paradigm shift with the beginning of research on complex systems. He explains that complex systems, such as cellular automata (CA), generate global behavior from rule-based interactions of simple cells. He asserts that CA have had a known and deep history in computer science. He also notes that a brief definition of CA is given by Andrew Wuensche and Mike Lesser. He considers CA as a discrete dynamical system which develops by the iteration of a simple deterministic rule.
