- Authors
Vardiman, Phil; Pope, Don
- Abstract
The tremendous growth of the bottled water business laid the foundation for an excellent start-up opportunity. The Sibon Beverage Company (SBC), in Jasper, Texas saw the opportunity and took the plunge. The proximity of a source of pure spring water as well as major consumer markets in the large urban areas of Texas and Louisiana, along with available land and work force seemed to make the bottled water business a sure-fire venture. But after the startup, problems soon surfaced. After struggling for years, and a large investment, the business was closed. This case outlines and evaluates the decisions that led to the business closure.
