- Authors
Smith, Derryck H.
- Abstract
The author comments on the Conchrane review of a research study on the use of various atypical antipsychotic medications for adolescents with psychosis. Concerns are raised about weight gain and metabolic abnormalities or side effects in children and teens treated with antipsychotic medications for conditions such as attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, conduct disorder or oppositional defiant disorder. Recommendations for the use of antipsychotic drugs in adolescents are outlined.
