- Title
Realities of Baiji Conservation.
- Authors
REEVES, RANDALL R.; GALES, NICHOLAS J.
- Abstract
The article comments on the assertion of researchers G. Yang and colleagues that the Lipotes vexillifer or baiji in China has been a conservation cause celebre over the last 15 years. Many have given lip service to the need for greater efforts to improve the baiji's survival prospects, however, there is only little evidence of the vanishing creature's supposed celebrity. The author has observed that no large governmental organization has campaigned forcefully or invested more than a pittance to the cause.
