Reuben, David B.
- Abstract
The article describes the case of an 83-year-old man who has had fall-related injury and continues to provide care for his wife who has dementia. The case is considered a reflection of a common situation faced by clinicians in the U.S., which is planning for the final years of an elderly person's life. Several treatment options for the patient are cited, as well as patient goals and preferences. The article also offers a look at preventive care strategies to maintain health based on trust, rapport and mutual understanding.
