- Title
Tumors From Stem Cells.
- Abstract
The article reports on the case of an Israeli boy with ataxia telangiectasia, a disease which is usually fatal in the second or third decade and causes degeneration of certain brain regions and impaired immunity. A discussion of repeated injections of fetal neural stem cells which were given to the boy to treat the disease and resulted in the development of tumors in his brain and spinal cord is presented. Researchers suggest that the case provides incentives to perform extensive research on the biology of stem cells and the safety of using them to treat diseases.
