- Abstract
The article offers an update on an article concerning the case of a 35-year-old physician struggling with drug addiction that originally appeared in a September 2004 issue of the journal. The history of the doctor's opioid dependence, which began after self-treating an upper respiratory infection with a cough suppressant containing codeine, is detailed. The doctor/patient describes his successful completion of a 3-month inpatient stay at an addictions center and a 12 step recovery program which was part of his recommended treatment in order to maintain his medical license.
