- Abstract
The article presents a narrative about Alice Lenshina Mulenga from Zambia and founder of Lumpa Church that seceded from the United Church of Scotland. It demonstrates the agency and presence of women in society, religious life and in Mulenga's case, in church building and church history. The article also tells a story of resistance to both colonial forces and indigenous culture that sought to diminish the power and status of women.
