- Abstract
The article discusses clinical variants of pemphigoid. The most common variant, generalized bullous pemphigoid, is characterized by large, tense bullae that may arise from normal-appearing, urticarial, erythematous, or even erythrodermic bases. Systemic corticosteroid therapy is the mainstay of therapy of bullous pemphigoid. In general, bullous pemphigoid lesions remain localized for a variable time and then evolve into a generalized bullous eruption; however, some patients have chronic, recurrent, localized lesions. A rare variant of bullous pemphigoid is papular and nodular pemphigoid.
