- Abstract
This article presents an overview of the scholarly literature on African American author and thinker Anna Julia Cooper (1858-1964). Among the works discussed are "Black Women in White America" (1972) by Gerda Lerner, Mary Helen Washington's essay in the "Schomburg Library of Nineteenth-Century Black Women Writers" (1988) and Anna Julia Cooper, "Visionary Black Feminist: A Critical Introduction" (2007) by Vivian May. Cooper's book "A Voice from the South: By a Black Woman from the South" is discussed for its seminal contributions to black feminist thought.
