- Abstract
Based on the aesthetic approach to liminal symbology proposed by philosopher Eugenio Trías, this article sustains a comparative dialogue between the literary script by Julio Olaciregui and its film adaptation by Carlos Mayolo, both based on the story La Mansión de Araucaíma by Álvaro Mutis. These two creative media suggest two disjunctive techniques. However, they are convergent aesthetic registers that, implied by the symbolic construction of the "tropical gothic," jointly assume that the way of narrating is not flat but polyphonic, making possible a liminal interweaving between an interior aesthetic, according to Olaciregui's literary script, and an exterior one, in the case of Mayolo's film adaptation. However, both transpositions are committed to a liminal symbolic aesthetic of Mutis' story, in a symbolic-moral sense, causing its cessation in both registers but in interrelation with the Triasian categories of the beautiful and the sinister.
