In this article, the author presents her life and career as anthropology professor at Institute of Philosophy and Social Sciences in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Topics discussed include intellectual concern with comparative studies on Brazil and the U.S.; experience as first black among the students or teachers in Miami; and relationship with the great metropolises and their transformations.
