- Title
A Method for Investigating Population Declines of Migratory Birds Using Stable Isotopes: Origins of Harvested Lesser Scaup in North America.
- Abstract
The article focuses on use of stable isotopes for investigation of population declines of migratory birds with reference to Lesser Scaup in North America. Origins of migrating hatch-year lesser scaup (Aythya affinis) were determined by hydrogen isotopes in the study. The birds were taken from hunters across U.S. The breeding range of birds, values of feathers along with geospatial, observational and analytical data were evaluated. Monte Carlo integration was used for assignment uncertainty. It was concluded that the northern boreal region was less productive for scaups than more southern biomes.
