- Abstract
The article reports on the acquisition of the firm Ariosa Diagnostics by the pharmaceutical firm Roche to enter into the area of non-invasive prenatal testing (NPT). It mentions that NPT assay are done by the drug firms as laboratory developed tests (LDTs) regulated under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments and not through the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Also presented are views of Ronald Wapner of Columbia University Medical Center, on doctors misconception regarding NPT.
