The article focuses on biotechs following big pharmaceutical companies back to academia for research and development (R&D). It mentions the 40-million-U.S. dollar agreement of Gilead Biosciences with Yale University, the deal of German firm Evotec with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and Harvard of Cambridge, Massachusetts. It also notes other research collaborations including 100 million U.S. dollars commitment of Pfizer to eight research institutions in Massachusetts while GlaxoSmithKline is planning 10 deals with individual academic researchers.
