The article discusses two approaches for selecting oligonucleotides from complex mixtures aimed to improve the fidelity and scalability of DNA synthesis. One paper addresses the hurdles of high cost and error rates of synthetic DNA. The other approach allows relatively inexpensive DNA oligonucleotides, synthesized on a microarray, to be used to assemble long DNA molecules encoding genes and other genomic elements.
