- Abstract
Our research deals with the parental influence on the coach's decisions and actions in alpine skiing-we investigated the influence of the parent's gender, education both in general and in the field of sport, the financial input of the parents and the success of the athlete. We focused on young athletes, because already at an early age the role of the parents is somewhat increased, when the sport is as expensive as alpine skiing is. The roles of everyone involved in the athlete's environment are becoming more and more achievement oriented - the children are oriented towards winning, the coaches towards progress of their athletes and the parents toward financially supporting the demands of practice and competitions. We often hear the complaints of coaches that parents try to exert too much pressure on them regarding their decisions, simply because of the amount of their financial input and this research focuses on verifying these claims of coaches. The research included 44 parents and 14 coaches of alpine skiing in Slovenia in the category of older boys and girls. The data was obtained with a questionnaire that we constructed ourselves and we found that the parents increase the amount of their attempts to influence the coach's decisions and actions as their financial input increases. We also found that the parents do not try to increase the amount of pressure on the coach when the children's results are worse than expected.
