- Abstract
The article discusses the establishment and operations of the No. 1 Overseas Ferry Unit (OFU), part of the Royal Canadian Air Force's (RCAF) 1st Canadian Air Division. The unit ferried the fighter planes used by the Air Division overseas as part of the RCAF's commitment to the development of the North Atlantic Treat Organization's (NATO) military aviation capabilities. The Air Division's use of DeHavilland Vampire, Gloster Meteor, and Sabre fighter planes is explained. The creation of an air bridge to safely deliver these planes is detailed. Details for specific ferrying missions, named RANDOM, flown by the OFU are provided.
