- Abstract
Nowadays, with the increase in the number of bariatric and metabolic surgeries (BMS) and the introduction of new bariatric methods, the registration of obesity and metabolic surgeries data, to evaluate long-term efficacy and safety of bariatric surgical procedures, more accurate follow-up of patients, and a reliable and available source for research, is mandatory. The Iran National Obesity Surgery Database (INOSD) started as a local database in 2007 with the focus on registering paraclinical, demographic, nutrition, sports medicine, and surgery data and in 2012, it was introduced as a national web-based database. Although there are other local databases in some centers, INOSD as the first web-based national database is used by many Iranian bariatric/metabolic surgeons who are members of the Iranian branch of IFSO and university centers for training in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery fellowship.
