- Title
SERVO DA PALAVRA DEDEUS: OOFÍCIO PASTORAL EM RICHARD BAXTER.
- Authors
Ferreira, Franklin
- Abstract
One of the goals of this article is to offer a summary and updated perspective on the pastoral views of Richard Baxter. First, the author offers a biographical sketch of Baxter as placed in the context of that movement of ecclesiastical renewal know as Puritanism. Baxter is portrayed as one of the most important ministers of that movement in England. Then, the author's attention is focused upon Baxter's ministry at Kidderminster, with a special glance upon his understanding of pastoral ministry as well as his perspective on the priorities of ministry -- the preaching of the Gospel, the teaching of Scripture and the shepherding of souls. Finally, the author discusses Baxter's emphasis on authentic Christianity, which characterized his whole pastoral work.
