- Abstract
The article discusses central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO), a condition in which the central retinal artery is blocked, leading to vision loss. The incidence of CRAO is low, with 1 in 10,000 cases reported at tertiary referral centers. It primarily affects older adults but can also occur in children and young adults. Prolonged retinal ischemia can cause irreversible damage to the retina. The article also mentions various factors that can contribute to retinal artery occlusion, such as the use of certain medications, including desvenlafaxine and cocaine, as well as migraine and vasospastic disorders. Diagnostic tools and potential treatments for CRAO, such as vitrectomy, are also discussed.
