Journey in the African Epic.
- Authors
Kunene, Daniel P.
- Abstract
The article focuses on journey in the African epic. Of all the features of the African epic, journey seems to have received the least attention thus far. One of the effects of journey is that it creates tension in which point of departure constantly exerts a magnetic pull on all the other points of the circular movement, drawing back to itself that which it is simultaneously rejecting, that which is going away, namely the hero. Journey is a useful means of high-lighting key points in the story. Each such point can be defined in terms of the quality and quantity of the essential action of the story which takes place there.
