- Abstract
This article explores the compatibility between Data-Driven Learning (DDL) and usage-based approaches to second language acquisition (SLA). Usage-based approaches emphasize the importance of language use and its impact on language development. DDL, which utilizes language corpora to study learner input and output, aligns with usage-based SLA by exposing learners to authentic usage data and helping them derive regularities and patterns. The article suggests future research directions, including the creation of DDL materials guided by usage-based SLA principles and longitudinal studies to examine the long-term effects of DDL. The author emphasizes the importance of establishing stronger connections between DDL and SLA theory to enhance language learning outcomes.
