The article presents a rehearsal and performance guide for "Hoe Down," a compact tone poem for string orchestra derived from the ballet "Rodeo" scored by Aaron Copland. Topics discussed include Copland's contributions to symphony and operatic music, commissioning of the ballet music, and preparation of compositions for use in schools. The composer's approach to structure and emphasis on stylistic unity realized through the consistent execution of articulation and note lengths are mentioned.
