- Abstract
The Helms Burton Act passed in 1996 by the United States as part of its blockade policy against Cuba has presented itself as a real threat to Cuba, its economy and foreign investors operating in the country today. The activation of Title III of the Helms Burton Act as unprecedented measure by the Trump Administration to intensify political pressure on Cuba, allows US citizens to claim damages for “trafficking” on properties that were confiscated at the beginning of the Cuban Revolution. The international community, including the European Union, has spoken against it. The purpose of this article is to present the situation regarding the application of Title III and to make a brief analysis from International Law perspective.
