- Abstract
The article examines the mental health status of American troops deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq. The author discusses the history of war zone-related mental health problems, in particular post-traumatic stress syndrome (PTSD), as well as lessons from Vietnam for veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan. The impact of PTSD on physical health and war zone-related PTSD on military dependents is discussed.
