- Authors
Hughes, Virginia
- Abstract
The article discusses the activity of brain cells called microglia. It relates the study conducted by Axel Nimmerjahn, a biophysicist at the Salk Institute in La Jolla, California, on the everyday activity and movement of the brain cells through brain tissue. It notes that microglia transfer to the brain during prenatal development in a mouse and serve as immune cells. Moreover, it mentions several studies that testify the use of microglial manipulation in treating neurodevelopmental disorders.
