- Abstract
Regarding the origins of psychology in Argentina, the contributions of Víctor Mercante (1870-1934) who developed an extensive work in the psichopedagogy field in the late 19th and in de earlier 20th centuries, are extremely relevant. This paper analyzes a set of letters and newspaper articles that are part of the author's personal archive, in order to highlight the value of documentary sources with these characteristics for the inquiry of the performance of significant figures of the scientific field. From the critical history perspective, personal archives constitute a privileged resource in the investigation of the contributions of their creators, as well as the social networks in which they were was inserted and the social and cultural context of their production. The documents that are analyzed and the questions that guided the analysis, allow us to show some key aspects of Mercante's work and his projections in broader settings: on the one hand, the close relationship between his theoretical production and his pedagogical intervention proposal and the politic and cultural context of the time and, on the other, the shaping of networks for the circulation of psychological knowledge beyond the local sphere.
