- Abstract
Glass ceiling syndrome emerges as one of the remarkable concept in recent years while being examined the personnel system and career opportunities within this system in recent years. As its name suggests, the glass ceiling is an obstacle that is transparent and difficult to overcome. These obstacles are encountered particularly in the level of accessing senior management staff. It is stated in the literature that these obstacles have an effect especially on female workers. Women takes advantage of educational opportunities infinitely. Therefore, women gualify for senior positions as well as employment in business. Nowadays, Women both in our country and abroud, cannot accupy upper positions in the rate of being employed in private or public sectors. The rate of women in business has largely seen in academic business li fe in Turkey compared to developed countries. However, when compared to senior positions in academic life it is not seen in the same proportional value. The aim of this study is to examine the egalitarianism among public instutions, how much women in highe r education istitutions which should be taken into consideration differences of employers higly, take advantage of career opportunitiesin academic, administrative and technical framework with an emphasis on causes and consequences on Turkish sample. In this context, it will be firstly discussed glass ceiling syndrome and factors effecting that syndrome. The position of women in business Turkey will be secondly stated briefly by taking into consideration the public sector on behalf of achieving the main purp ose of this study. Finally, it will be presented some information and data about current situation of women in senior positions and their problems during acedemic career working in higher education institutions in Turkey.
