- Title
Poetic Forms in the Masoretic Vocalization and Three Difficult Phrases in Jacob's Blessing.
- Authors
Steiner, Richard C.
- Abstract
The article presents discussion and analysis of the poetic forms seen in the Masoretic versions of the patriarch Jacob's blessing from the Old Testament passage of Genesis 49. It is suggested that the Masoretic vocalizations of the text accurately reflected the "poetic dialect" of the oral reading tradition of Biblical Hebrew. Focus is given to three specific phrases within the chapter, including verses 3, 4, and 10. יחד שׂאח (Gen 49:3), יצהעי עלח and יכא שׁילח.
