- Abstract
The article discusses the authenticity of the mission of Biblical character Ezra to Jerusalem, represented in the Bible's book of Ezra, assigned by a letter of appointment by Persian king Artaxerxes, focusing on the legal and historical aspects in the letter. Topics include a comparison of Ezra to the Greek office of inspector, or ἐπίσκοπος, in the Athenian Empire, and Egyptian law related to the legal aspects during Darius's rule as Persian emperor.
