- Abstract
The article focuses on early Renaissance Flemish painter Roger van der Weyden, comparing him with contemporary painter Jan van Eyck, both notable for their portraits of Philip the Good of Burgundy, also known as Philip III, Duke of Burgundy. Works described include his portraits entitled "Portrait of a Lady," "Portrait of a Man," and "Charles the Bold." Other topics considered include van der Weyden's relationship with the court of the Duke of Burgundy; his stylistic poses used for portraits featuring semi-profiles, folded hands, and fixed gazes; and his 1450 journey to Rome, Italy.
