- Abstract
In 1927, the Society for Psychical Research conducted a mass participation experiment in which they invited the British public to guess the identity of two playing cards. Over 24,000 people participated, but at the time it wasn't possible to fully assess the results because of a lack of control data. In 2012, researchers collected the required data, and the current paper used this modern-day database to carry out an exploratory assessment of the 1927 experiment. The results do not provide evidence for psychic functioning, but they do suggest that the public's preference for particular playing cards has remained fairly stable for almost a century.
