- Abstract
The article compares the population estimates obtained from a 17-year study of gravid female snakes at a communal nesting site (CNF) with that from an eight-year traditional capture-mark-recapture (CMR) study in Oriolo Romano, Province of Viterbo, near Rome, Italy. In the first study, there were significant differences in the probability of capture from 2006 to 2009, suggesting a higher capture probability than earlier years. No statistical differences were found between population sizes estimated with CMR and CNF. There was no relationships observed between yearly population size estimate with CNF and CMR.
