- Abstract
Health, an important component of human capital, has positive effects on the economic growth process. In the literature, health expenditure and economic growth relationship, which are considered as health-based growth hypothesis, have been covered in many studies. In this study, the relationship between the share of health expenditures in GDP and economic growth was tested by panel data analysis. The data of 35 OECD countries between the years 2000 and 2014 were used. According to the results of the study, a bi-directional causal relationship was found between the two variables. Moreover, FMOLS and DOLS tests also support these results. In the FMOLS test for 35 OECD countries, if the share of health expenditures in GDP increases by 1%, it increases the economic growth by 0,903% (0.95% for DOLS).
